SINGAPORE, July 4,2005. Visitors can soon travel to and explore in style the awe-inspiring frontiers of Tibet and Shangri-La. Award-winning Banyan Tree Hotels and Resorts adds to its collection of high-end resorts a unique sanctuary in China's magnificent Yunnan province bordering Tibet.

Mr. Ho Kwon Ping, Executive Chairman of Banyan Tree Group was struck by the rustic charm of the Tibetan lifestyle and the breathtaking landscape when he first visited Ringha. He expressed, "This unexplored region, with its majestic peaks, eco-diversity and rich culture, is a dream destination that has only been explored by a handful of travelers. By choosing Shangri-la as our first Banyan Tree property in China, we continue to epitomise the spirit of travel, adventure and romance that our discerning guests expect from the brand."

Cultural Accents

Banyan Tree Ringha imparts a unique sense of place to its guests, through Banyan Tree's cultural and environmental initiatives. The resort is made of authentic Tibetan farmhouses that were personally selected and purchased by the hotel group, taken down and reconstructed in the traditional style of meticulously piling the logs one on top of another in a new site at Ringha Valley. This ensured that no newly cut timber were required, while the original character of the dwellings were kept intact.

Banyan Tree Ringha features 32 stunning Tibetan suites and lodges. Each room comes with a luxuriously designed bathroom fitted with a handcrafted wooden bathtub.

The lobby with a blazing fireplace, restaurant, bar lounge and library will also be located in the Tibetan houses. The interior is decorated with contemporary Tibetan art and crafts, featuring exquisitely woven rugs and drapes in bright and vibrant colours. The resort boasts of the signature Banyan Tree Spa and Banyan Tree Gallery.

Explore and Experience

Apart from the allure of the unique accommodation, Banyan Tree group is confident of Ringha's nature and cultural tourism offerings. The charm and beauty of this mostly unexplored destination varies, as it is home to a plethora of experiences to visitors. Ringha is conveniently set among dramatic terrains presenting a kaleidoscope of seasonal experiences as well as ancient temples, palaces and monasteries that have witnessed Tibet's storied past.

Banyan Tree Ringha is set against the backdrop of the enchanting Temple of the Five Wisdom Buddhas and faces the spectacular Ringha River. The resort will offer a selection of unique tour options that draws guests to absorb the breath-taking sights and intriguing cultural landscape, while treating them to the finer touches and services in the true Banyan Tree style
