AUGUST 31, 2006. The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA) Annual Fall Conference is scheduled for November 10-14, at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. The event is held in conjunction with the International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (R) (IH/M&RS), the premier trade event for the hospitality industry. Educational seminars, networking events, and AH&LA committee meetings round out a program focused on the industry's preeminent issues.
For the third consecutive year, on Saturday, November 11, the Hospitality Leadership Forum will bring together visionaries from across the industry to discuss the forces that will shape the future of the lodging industry during a special one-day educational conference. Rudolph W. Giuliani, former mayor of New York City, will be the luncheon keynote speaker. Giuliani is known for his stellar leadership and resiliency during one of America's most devastating tragedies-the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center. He will share the principles of leadership and important lessons he gained during a lifetime of public service.
This year's Forum features 11 sessions, including a CEO/Leadership Panel with executives from the lodging, restaurant, and design industries. Moderated by Ferguson Partners Ltd. Advisory Group Chairman & Chief Operating Officer William J. Ferguson, panelists include Matthew J. Hart of Hilton Hotels Corporation; Raymond 'Rip' Gellein, Jr. of Starwood Global Development Group; Edward R. Tinsley, III, of Tinsley Hospitality Group, LLC; and Julia Monk of BBG-BBGM, Brennan Beer Gorman/Architects, Brennan Beer Gorman Monk/Interiors.
In addition, more than 30 standing committees, including the AH&LA board of directors, Allied Executive Committee, the Governmental Affairs/HotelPAC Committee, the Multicultural Diversity Advisory Council, the Women In Lodging Council, and the Condominium/Vacation Ownership Committee, will convene throughout the four-day period.
A highlight of the conference is the Inaugural Gala, which honors incoming AH&LA incoming Chairman Robert L. Steele, III, general manager, Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay, November 12 at the Grand Hyatt New York. Attendance for this black-tie event is limited. Tickets are $250 per person or $2,500 per table of 10.
In its 91st year, the IH/M&RS is sponsored by AH&LA; the New York State Hospitality & Tourism Association, Inc.; and the Hotel Association of New York City, Inc. The trade show, which attracts approximately 35,000 attendees, features more than 1,250 exhibiting companies and a comprehensive lineup of educational programs focusing on topics such as technology, design, and foodservice. Other keynotes include the 'Raise Your Hospitality IQ: An AH&LA Women in Lodging Council Executive Panel' and the Keynote Purchasing Seminar: 'How Lodging's Leading Vendors Take it to the Top.'
