Eden Roc Completes $200 million Renovation and Expansion
A Renaissance Beach Resort & Spa
MIAMI BEACH, FL, November 6, 2008. Eden Roc, A Renaissance Beach Resort & Spa re-opened following 18 months of renovation and expansion. The soft opening marks the completion of the Resort Tower and its amenities while the resort's owners put the finishing touches on a new 21-story Ocean Tower, set to open by year-end. The Eden Roc was originally designed and built in 1956 by architect Morris Lapidus. Its Art Deco design and architecture reflect the history and flamboyance of the hotel's glory days during the 1950s and 1960s.
"We are conducting a soft opening following the completion of our $200 million transformation, so that we have the luxury of planning and staging the resort for our grand opening celebration in early 2009," says General Manager Gary Gentile. "The Eden Roc is re-emerging as a chic icon of style and luxury in Miami Beach and for the Renaissance brand. The new Eden Roc is intimate and elegant...like a Jewel Box; each space opening up to reveal distinctive design and amenities delivered with exceptional level of service that delights and surprises. I invite everyone to rediscover the Eden Roc!"
The renovation of the stylish Eden Roc, a Renaissance Beach Resort & Spa, is the latest addition to the global Renaissance portfolio, which is nearing completion of a $2 billion makeover by owners and franchisees. This year, Renaissance has also completed major renovations in several major cities - a $24 million renovation of The Renaissance Times Square Hotel in New York, a $128 million restoration of the historic Chicago landmark, The Blackstone, a Renaissance Hotel, and a multi-million dollar makeover of The Shelbourne Dublin, a Renaissance Hotel.
Style and Luxury from the Moment You Walk in
Upon entering the resort, the eye is immediately drawn to the new lobby bar, a circular centerpiece embraced by Brazilian rosewood columns that is strategically positioned to create a cosmopolitan gathering place for guests and visitors. A striking retro print serves as a dramatic backdrop while floor-to-ceiling glass windows showcase see-through views of sea and sky. Old blends seamlessly with new as perfectly matched vanilla marble surrounds the gleaming brass elevator doors and new black and white terrazzo floors marry perfectly with Morris Lapidus' original Anthurium design. Upon arrival, guests will register at sleek new stations framed in dark wood and backlit in glowing white light nestled in front of a curved linear wall of glass and stone. Just off of the lobby resides the resort's new high end boutique, Lustre, offering designer resort wear and distinctive gift items.
Chic, Sophisticated Guestrooms
Each new Resort Tower guestroom has been completely redesigned to offer a chic, sophisticated living space with expansive views of the ocean or Intracoastal Waterway. Rooms come fully equipped with the cutting edge technology that has become standard in Renaissance Hotels & Resorts, including large screen LCD TV's and iPod docking stations. Guest bathrooms have been enlarged and finished in creamy marble with sleek silver fixtures. Special touches, such as freshly prepared cotton-rich linens, designer covers, an abundance of oversized fluffy pillows as well as thicker, more comfortable mattresses and ultra contemporary bath amenities, complete the luxurious guest experience.
Dining: On the Beach
Guests can eat, drink and be merry at any of the Eden Roc's unforgettable new restaurants, such as: the Cabana Beach Club, formerly known as Aquatica, serving tempting salads, sandwiches and grilled seafood, chicken or beef while overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. This historic spot is one of only two restaurants on Miami Beach that offer al fresco dining right on the beach. The Waterfall Grill, a casual outdoor dining venue located beneath a waterfall on the oceanfront lawn serves lighter fare for guests enjoying pool or beach; or guests can dine at the sumptuous new Gia Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, situated just off of the lobby. The resort also features a Starbucks, opening mid-November, and a world-renowned signature restaurant that will be announced in 2009.
Under the creative direction of Scott Siebert and Executive Chef Thorsten Leighty, Gia Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar offers only the freshest ingredients. Chef Leighty, working in concert with local growers and South Florida's fishing industry, has created a menu that boasts eclectic flavors and daily selections, as well as featured courses with wine pairings. Highly polished dark woods, stamped tin relief ceilings painted in a creamy butter-white and distressed cement walls create the ambiance of an Italian villa, while its easy menu and friendly service evoke the charm of a bistro.
Gia's menu boasts a variety of small plates, including items such as steamed mussels, cockles & clams in a roast garlic-viognier brodetto or seared beef carpaccio with nebbiolo pears and black pepper pecorino. Big plates are as varied as the starters, with choices ranging from seared and simmered white balsamic glazed duck with toasted butternut squash and broccoli rabe to ravioli with homemade ricotta, spinach and white wine sage butter sauce. The gourmet selections extend to dessert, where guests can choose among plates such as pannetone bread pudding with roasted banana custard or warm fig tart with lemon-pistachio crust and hazelnut gelato.
Cocktail Culture
At the new Eden Roc Lobby Bar, guests can mix up libations with Cocktail Culture, one of the exciting new elements that put guests in the spotlight with a sophisticated and fun experience they can find only at Renaissance hotels. Cocktail Culture includes the custom Renaissance Cocktail Blocks - an exciting and fun way for guests to interact at the bar. Each block features different cocktail ingredient "building blocks," including Spirits, Barware, Fresh Ingredient, Method of Preparation and Flavor Profile. Guests experiment with the blocks and the bartenders by rolling different combinations to create a signature cocktail. The bartender then picks the winning combination, named for the guest who created it, and features it as the drink of the evening for all to try.

As the top venue in South Florida for Kosher events, the Eden Roc has created a separate Kosher Kitchen that employs the same state of the art technology used in the main kitchen, but will only be used for Kosher events. The Kosher Kitchen will only be opened with a Rabbi's blessing prior and members of the kitchen team will wear yarmulke during all food preparation, which will be in accordance with Kosher dietary laws. The Eden Roc is one of only two hotels on Miami Beach with a Kosher Kitchen.
The Eden Roc commands center stage on one of the world's most famous beaches, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the yachts and mansions of the Intracoastal Waterway on the other. With the redesign of its Resort Tower and the addition of the sleek new 21-story Ocean Tower, the Eden Roc has almost doubled in size from 349 guest rooms to 631 oversized guest rooms, including three 2,500 sq. ft. penthouse suites, 18 oceanfront one-bedroom suites, 15 bi-level bungalow suites with floating staircases and a grand total of 70,000 sq. ft. of meeting and event space.
The resort's focal point is an oasis of six infinity-edged pools and waterfalls surrounded by gardens threaded with walkways and intimate seating areas. Overlooking this tropical haven is the ultra stylish new Spa of Eden. Opening in Spring 2009, the spa will boast 21,000 sq. ft. of elegantly appointed space with 17 treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center.
