St Kitts - US$70 Million Hotel And Villa Resort For Frigate Bay

ST. KITTS, July 30, 2005. The Cable Bay Hotel and Villa Development Project at Frigate Bay, was formally presented to St. Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Tourism, Dr. the Hon. Denzil L. Douglas on Wednesday afternoon.

Managing Director of Newfound Property International (NPI), an international resort sales and marketing company, Mr. William Thompson, informed Prime Minister Douglas and other government officials, that ground breaking and construction of the US$70 million hotel/villa project is scheduled for January next year.

He said the 300-room resort on 39 acres, which will be comprised of 160 villas, will employ 300 persons during the construction phase and hopes to have rooms available by March 2007. The resort is expected to employ some 200 persons during its operation. Amenities will include the reception area, clubhouse, spa, restaurants and pool.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, the Hon. Ricky Skerritt, who has been spearheading the negotiations, is expected to take the project to the Cabinet on Monday.

Mr. Thompson said Newfound Property International, with offices in London UK; Ireland and Newfoundland, Canada, is already holding talks with an Italian company to operate the hotel.

Local partners in the multi-million dollar project are TDC and Rams Group of Companies. Super Clubs of Jamaica also has an interest.

The presentation, at the OTI Conference Room, was also attended by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Sports and Culture, Mr. Lloyd Lazar; Consultant in the Ministry of Finance, Mr. Wendell Lawrence, Senior Physical Planning Officer, Mr. Patrick Williams; Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Erasmus Williams; Chairman of TDC Group of Companies, Mr. Michael Morton; TDC Director, Mr. Nick Menon and Chairman of Rams Group of Companies, Mr. Kishu handaramani.
