Lodging Industry Opposes Griffin Nomination as NRB General Counsel
Urges Senate to vote “no” on cloture
Washington, DC - October 30, 2013 - The American Hotel & Lodging Association (AH&LA), the sole national association representing all segments of the lodging industry, urges the United States Senate to block the nomination of Richard F. Griffin, Jr. as general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and issued the following statement:
“For more than two years, the National Labor Relations Board issued decisions and took administrative actions based on a quorum of members that both the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled unconstitutional,” said Katherine Lugar, AH&LA president and CEO. “Throughout this period, Mr. Griffin - despite the questions surrounding the legitimacy of the President's recess appointments and the ongoing business of the NLRB - actively perpetuated this uncertainty by failing to refuse his questionable appointment and by continuing to issue rulings and promulgate new rules, often counter to established law.”
Lugar continued, “The lodging industry cannot support someone who continues to perform his duties under a substantial, lingering cloud of illegitimacy. We urge the Senate to vote 'no' on cloture and to oppose Mr. Griffin's confirmation as NLRB general counsel.”
