Hotel Pricing and Parity Analysis for the week of July 11, 2013 in Europe Region

August, 2013 - RateGain, The Leading hospitality technology company, released this week's Hotel Pricing Trends and Hotel Rate Parity report. A single window BI dashboard, enabling revenue professionals on cheapest rate visibility, tracking hotel rate parity along with median rate for three (3) months of three, four and five star hotel category across some of the major cities in Europe region.

Data range spans across July to Sep 2013, starting from the first week of July (all rates in US dollars and for two adults on one-night stay).

Performance Facts:
In price trends report, In Europe, the trends for minimum rates are generally lower in August or flat across the period of the report which reflects the summer holiday period. The exceptions are Palma and Edinburgh which are popular destinations in August. In September the lowest rates generally return to the levels seen in July or slightly higher. Median rates typically follow similar trends in all hotel categories with lower median rates in August and increases in September. The widest rate ranges are seen in Paris and London, with Copenhagen, Rome and Venice showing larger variations between minimum and median rates. On average, Scandinavian locations are the most expensive locations for 3-star hotels while London, Paris and Venice compete for the highest average rates in the 4-star and 5-star categories. In Africa, the trends are generally flat or slightly declining for both the minimum and median rates in all categories.

In Parity trend report, The level of rate parity between hotel websites and OTAs varies widely in the locations covered by the report, which is for the period from July to September 2013. UK cities have between 40% and 66% of hotels maintaining parity, the highest proportion being for 5-star hotels in Edinburgh. Dublin has 57% of 3-star hotels in parity and Paris has 50% of 5-star hotels also in parity. For 3-star and 4-star hotels, brand sites were cheaper for at least 43% of hotels in Paris, Prague, Rome, Venice and Zurich. OTAs generally offer the cheapest rates in Amsterdam but in Helsinki there is wide variation with brand sites cheaper for 4-star and 5-star but OTAs taking the lead in the 3-star category. Madrid, London and Paris show the most balanced picture with a broadly even spread of hotels in parity, cheaper on brand sites or cheaper on OTAs.
