525-room San Juan Marriott Resort in Puerto Rico Begins $8 Million Guestroom Renovation
SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - July 29, 2013 - The San Juan Marriott Resort has begun an $8 million renovation, focused on upgrades to all 525 guestrooms and balconies. The redesign will bring the look and feel of the rooms in line with the ongoing modernization of the rest of the resort, geared to meet demands of the ever-changing customer. Renovations are slated for completion by early December.
The new room product will reflect a more upscale, residential ambience, combining warm wooden tones in furnishings with fresh splashes of color to signify the tropical location. Additionally, new 47-inch TVs, balcony furniture, and sandy textured carpeting that alludes to the beachfront setting will be incorporated, and artwork will further provide a sense of place.
"As travel becomes a more accessible and acceptable part of life, blending the line between business and leisure has become increasingly important. We've found that though guests are spending less time in rooms and more time in public spaces, when they are in-room they expect a design that is luxurious, but with comfort and function as key," said Hans-Georg Roehrbein, General Manager. "This renovation brings San Juan Marriott full circle after renovations to the F&B outlets, casino, meeting space and lobby over the past three years, all based on the demands of the evolving traveler."
San Juan Marriott's last room product upgrade was a $35 million investment in 2007, which produced a completely renovated room and bathroom combining clean, crisp design with state of the art technology. Other recent updates include a re-imagined La Vista Latin Grill, the hotel's three meal a day restaurant and La Isla Beach and Pool Bar in 2010, as well as a $2.2 million overhaul of the lobby and introduction of the "Red Coral Lounge" in 2012.
"The living space must support the public space as today's travelers tend to connect in all areas of the hotel," Roehrbein said. "The $8 million renovation is the latest answer to meeting the needs of today and tomorrow's guests and is crucial to staying relevant and viable in such a competitive market."
