. June 14, 2013

McLean, VA - June 14, 2013 - The Foundation of the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) recently announced its annual scholarship program is now open through July 15 to part- and full-time college and graduate students. The 2013 scholarship program application is available to students working toward careers in hospitality sales, marketing or revenue management.

For three decades, the HSMAI Foundation has afforded scholarships to outstanding and deserving students working to earn associate, bachelor's or graduate degrees in hospitality-related fields. In addition to their studies, eligible students must demonstrate related work experience, an intention to pursue a career in hospitality sales, marketing or revenue management, and good academic standing with their college or university.

"Throughout the past 30 years, the HSMAI Foundation's scholarship funding has helped many exceptional young, aspiring hospitality sales and marketing professionals complete their undergraduate and graduate degrees and launch successful careers in the industry," said Vail Brown, chair, HSMAI Foundation, vice president, STR. "This year's winners will be no exception, and we look forward to hearing about all that they have done and all that they plan to do as they propel forward into the hospitality industry."

For the fifth year, graduate students additionally will be considered for the HSMAI Foundation Mike Dimond Scholarship. The Dimond Scholarship was established in 2009 to carry on the legacy of the highly regarded hospitality sales and marketing executive who passed away in 2008.

Last year's recipients of the HSMAI Foundation scholarships, sponsored by American Express, were Shouma Ian Moniz of the University of California, Davis - Graduate School of Management and Matthew Stone, a doctoral student at Texas A&M University. Additionally, Stone was the recipient of last year's Mike Dimond Scholarship.

"A crucial part of the HSMAI Foundation's mission is to develop knowledge and insights for the future of our industry, and there is no better way to do this than to support our youngest colleagues," added Fran Brasseux, executive director, HSMAI Foundation.

The HSMAI Foundation and partner American Express ensure winning recipients have funds forwarded to their respective colleges directly to be applied toward tuition for the subsequent semester.

Each applicant is considered based on extracurricular involvement in HSMAI and other organizations / associations at their respective colleges, grade point average, two recommendation forms and three personal essays addressing why he / she is the best candidate for the scholarship funds.

For additional information and requirements for the HSMAI Foundation scholarships, students can visit the HSMAI Scholarships page. All applications must be received by July 15, 2013, and recipients will be notified by August 15, 2013.
