Hamilton Crowne Plaza Hotel Hails Historic Assets

Lobby, Lounge and Guest Rooms Restored with a Contemporary Flair

. December 13, 2012

Washington, DC - December 13, 22012 - The historic Hamilton Crowne Plaza Hotel at 14th and K Streets, NW launches the holiday season by revealing its new look - and its historic treasures. The 318-room hotel, designed in Beaux Arts style by prominent French architect, Jules Henri di Sibour in 1921, has been given a renewed look by nationally acclaimed hospitality interior design firm, Design Atelier. The classic hotel in the heart of downtown DC now incorporates modern sophistication while maintaining much of its original structure and rich history.

“We are so pleased to unveil the transformation of our hotel to our guests, said Sholeh K. Kia, the Hamilton's general manager. “We have enhanced the impeccable service and exceptional comfort, with contemporary amenities to create a more memorable experience for our guests.”

The original 1920's Beaux Arts-style arched ceiling was re-discovered when the drop ceiling was removed. Artists were called in to restore gold-gilt paint to the original design, re-creating a dramatic, regal gold and royal blue entrance to the property, evoking the glamour of the 1920's era. Guests are welcomed by an updated front desk designed in metal studded leather, reminiscent of a roaring twenties travel trunk.

The restored lobby design brings back the “fashionable boarding house” experience, with crisply painted white paneled walls and comfortable furnishings in rich and luxurious eggplant and saffron leather, mohair and velvet that enhance the Beaux Arts architecture. A uniquely decorative chandelier placed over the traditional settee reflects the hotel's grand past while artwork of historic maps and 1920's imagery presented in modern acrylic and canvas add a contemporary vibe.

The Hamilton's popular bar has extended its lounge into the lobby, encouraging guests to rediscover the hotel with multifunctional seating for social and business gatherings. New furniture groupings invite guests to mingle and dine on lite fare, work on their laptop or lounge with a glass of wine at happy hour.

The transformation from old to new is distinctly clear when the elevator doors open onto the guest floors. Guest rooms are the pinnacle of elegance and luxury with neoclassic white paneling juxtaposed against timeless rich toned wool carpet. Dramatic full height upholstered headboards flanked by mirrored antique maps of the city above the nightstands set the tone for the quintessential Washington, D.C. hotel. All furniture is finished in rich deep espresso to honor the tradition of the past, while the sophisticated taupe color palette with touches of tomato and claret provide a serene oasis in the heart of the city. Touches of history are referenced in the marble nightstand lamps, the scroll design of the pillow shams that hint at Hamilton's signature, and the artwork composed of Alexander Hamilton quotes and his silhouette. The Hamilton's 17 premier suites feature additional amenities, including a 42-inch flat screen TV, an executive workstation with Wi-Fi access and a separate living area with a sleeper sofa. In addition to its deluxe accommodations, the hotel offers a pet-friendly floor, an Executive Concierge level and a dedicated floor that uniquely caters to women business travelers.

The Hamilton's signature 14K Restaurant, under the operation of newly appointed Executive Chef Juan Natal, provides a memorable and delicious dining experience along with a select wine list for hotel guests and busy Washingtonians. This renowned contemporary American bistro also features an enclosed patio overlooking vibrant K Street and Franklin Square Park.

With an ideal location near many major D.C. landmarks and over 7,000 square feet of meeting space including two Ballrooms, and five meeting rooms, The Hamilton provides the perfect setting for social events or business meetings in the heart of the nation's capital.
