The Red Lion Inn Announces 17-room Property Expansion, Scheduled to Open in July

. May 17, 2012

Stockbridge, MA - May 17, 2012 - The Red Lion Inn is pleased to announce that it is adding another guesthouse to its distinctive collection of guestrooms and suites. Maple Glen, scheduled to open July of this year, will bring the Inn's capacity up to 125 rooms.

We ve had our eye on the property for years now and when it came on the market, we saw an excellent opportunity to not only expand the number of sleeping rooms at the Inn, but also to diversify the ambiance and amenities available for our guests, said Red Lion Inn General Manager Bruce Finn. Maple Glen represents the first addition of rooms in the Berkshires in the four years since the recession, and we are excited to be leading the recovery of the hospitality market in our area.

Maple Glen is located on the corner of South and Maple Street, just a few doors down from the Main Inn, and will offer 17 new rooms, with modern amenities and decor. The expansion includes a renovation of the 2,685-square foot 2 story Greek Revival residence, built circa 1850. The project includes restoration of period details and an expansion of nearly 3,600 square feet to include 3 double queen-bedded rooms, 2 double queen-bedded suites, 12 king-bedded rooms, and a meeting space perfect for small meetings and receptions. Maple Glen will be the largest of the 9 Village Guest Houses which are clustered near the Main Inn.

Maple Glen: A Departure from The Red Lion Inn s Traditional New England Decor

Maple Glen adds a new choice to the range of accommodation options at The Red Lion Inn. The decor is a departure from the Inn s classic New England sensibility of floral wallpaper and antique teapots. Rooms in the new guesthouse will feature an exuberant color palette, padded fabric headboards, antique bureaus, an installation of vintage TV lamps, and an eclectic mix of needlepoint samplers, paint-by-numbers, family portraits and abstract art, all accented by vibrantly painted walls and hardwood floors.

Red Lion Inn owner Nancy Fitzpatrick was inspired by the families who lived in the former residence and what home furnishings they may have collected or created over the generations. Every Maple Glen room includes such modern amenities as flat-screen televisions, custom desks with high-speed internet connection, and mini-fridges. It s where Colonial charm meets an eclectic-vintage-bohemian aesthetic says Fitzpatrick.

The Inn continues its commitment of partnering with local and regional artisans, designers and manufacturers, including custom-made bathroom vanities by West Stockbridge artist Peter Thorne, custom desks by William Carl Marshall, and window treatments designed by Nancy Fitzpatrick that will be manufactured by the Housatonic Curtain Company.

The architect, Pamela Sandler, has worked on historic preservation and restoration projects at Hancock Shaker Village, Kripalu and Fox Hollow. The contractor, David J. Tierney Jr., was responsible for construction on the award-winning South Wing renovation of the Inn in 2006.

The Inn will employ the same eco-conscious renovation efforts as it did for the property s last renovation, which earned the Massachusetts Lodging Association s Good Earthkeeping Award and inclusion in National Geographic Traveler's STAY LIST.

A charter member of Historic Hotels of America and winner of the Wine Spectator award for over a decade The Red Lion Inn (c. 1773) has been providing food and lodging to guests for more than two centuries. With the addition of Maple Glen, the Inn offers 125 antique-filled rooms and suites, formal and casual dining with locally sourced ingredients, a gift shop featuring locally made items, a pub with nightly entertainment and a full range of amenities including free Wi-Fi, a year-round heated outdoor pool, and in-room massage therapy. The Inn is recommended by National Geographic Traveler, The New York Times and The Boston Globe. For more information, call 413-298-5545, or visit www.redlioninn.com.
