Hilton San Francisco Union Square to Undergo a Five-Month $51 Million Renovation
550 Guest Rooms and Function Space
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - December 8, 2011 - This month the renowned Hilton San Francisco Union Square embarks on a $51 million redevelopment project that will transform 550 guest rooms and function space. The project incorporates 21st century design features ensuring the hotel's positioning as the city's premier hotel and conference venue. The renovation is part of a three-year, $3 billion plan of significant property renovations currently underway across the global portfolio of Hilton Hotels & Resorts, the flagship brand of Hilton Worldwide.
The project began November 22, and ultimately will encompass a complete makeover of all guest rooms in the hotel's original building, constructed in 1964. Major improvements designed to enhance the guest experience include addition of a second window to improve views of the city and sound-proofing.
When the project is completed in April 2012, the guest rooms will also feature the added conveniences of home including new furniture, soft goods, refrigerators and wired and wireless high-speed Internet service. King rooms additionally will feature glass shower stalls.
The hotel's 20,000-square-foot Continental Ballroom and 31 of the additional meeting rooms (ranging in size from 430 to 1,090 square feet) will be expanded and updated with contemporary design features. Those facilities, together with the hotel's new 13,500 square-foot Golden Gate Ballroom, comprise a large part of the 134,500 square feet of function space in the hotel.
The hotel's public areas will also be renewed with contemporary furniture with clean lines that are both timeless and modern. In the hotel's corridors, guests will be able to enjoy artistic cityscapes commissioned by the hotel from local photographers.
“While Hilton San Francisco Union Square has always enjoyed a preferred status among meeting planners and business and leisure travelers, this comprehensive redevelopment will ensure our position as a world-class destination and center-city's premier hotel and conference venue for many more years to come,” said Michael Dunne, general manager, Hilton San Francisco Union Square.
Hilton San Francisco Union Square, just steps from Union Square, is a world-class destination and one of the largest hotels on the West Coast with 1,908 guest rooms, and 134,500 square feet of meetings and special events space. The hotel offers a fitness center, outdoor heated swimming pool, whirlpool, and the Urban Tavern restaurant, a modern Gastro Pub.
