Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu Promotes Green Meetings
Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu is promoting green initiatives through the resort's “Go Green Meetings” package. The package was created to generate environmental awareness among meeting planners, organisers and their associates to showcase how organisations and corporations can make their meetings environmentally friendly and to highlight the future of the meetings industry which is headed towards environmental sustainability.
The “Go Green Meetings” package includes the use of a suitable sized meeting room lit by natural daylight to conserve energy or meetings can take place outdoors as an eco-friendly alternative. A choice of themed coffee breaks serving healthy snacks and drinks such as dried and fresh fruits, mango yoghurt, lemon sorbet, a cocktail of local fresh fruit juices, bite-sized pastries, muesli bars and sushi topped with slices of fresh fruit is included in the package.
Only fruits and vegetables sourced from local producers are used during the themed breaks, which supports the local agricultural industry and reduces the footprint of the meeting. Additionally, meeting associates will receive refillable bottles of drinking water and personalised mugs to use for hot or cold beverages in light of the resort's on-going “Say NO to PLASTIC” campaign.
“For the past 13 years, we have been an industry leader in environmental initiatives and we will continue finding new ways to spread the 'green' message across schools, to our guests and to all our employees for years to come,” said Andrew Steele, general manager of Shangri-La's Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu. The resort is the recipient of numerous environmental awards including the Asean Green Award 2010 and the 2009 Sabah Tourism Award for Outstanding Environmentally Friendly Private Organisation.
