Following a Multi-million dollar Renovation
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL, July 7, 2009 - Starwood Hotels and Resorts along with Starwood Capital Group recently announced a new long-term management agreement and plans for renovation of the Sheraton Yankee Clipper Hotel. Having closed its doors on June 1, 2009, for the multi-million dollar renovation project, the oceanfront property is set to reopen in January 2010 as The Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel.
"We are honored to lead the rejuvenation of such a landmark hotel and are committed to restoring its iconic heritage," said Amaury Piedra, complex general manager at the Sheraton Yankee Clipper Hotel. "The hotel's prime beachfront location combined with Starwood Hotels and Resorts reputable service will offer loyal guests of the Sheraton Yankee Clipper Hotel and new visitors alike a memorable Fort Lauderdale experience. We are confident that our multi-million dollar renovation plans will establish the hotel as a leading property in the area."
Originally built in the 1950s, the hotel's rejuvenation project includes extensive renovations and restoration to its exterior, guestrooms, meeting space, public areas, restaurants and bar. In conjunction with those upgrades, the hotel will also introduce a new Sheraton Kids Club and Sheraton Core Fitness Center overlooking the main pool for all guests to enjoy. The classic design aspects of the property will be maintained throughout the enhancements, yet modernized to satisfy today's discerning travelers.
The hotel's distinctive exterior will soon receive a fresh look, while retaining the nautical theme of the property. Each of the hotel's 485 guestrooms, including 15 suites, will also be fully renovated and outfitted with the Sheraton Sweet SleeperSM Bed.
The Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel will feature a new family-friendly restaurant complete with a homemade ice cream soda fountain. A spectacle for all ages for decades, the famous Wreck Bar will undergo sizable upgrades as part of the project and will continue to welcome visitors.
Major upgrades are underway for the property's 7,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and 5,600 square feet of outdoor space, providing picturesque venues for small and mid-sized meetings and conferences overlooking the Atlantic Ocean.
Located directly on the beach, the hotel's pool and deck area will soon be expanded to offer more seating for sun-seekers. The poolside restaurant and bar, where guests enjoy tropical drinks and light fare amidst refreshing ocean breezes, will also receive a new menu and significant enhancements in conjunction with the project.
