SAN FRANCISCO, CA, November 16, 2006. Kempinski has opened its first five star hotel in the Republic of Djibouti in Eastern Africa. The 300 room beachfront hotel is located 4 km North the city at Heron Bay between the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean and 9 km from the airport.
The first phase of the Djibouti Palace Kempinski includes 177 rooms and suites, an infinity pool, a 400 seat restaurant serving international and regional cuisine, an a la carte restaurant, a cafe and lobby lounge and wireless internet throughout the hotel. In addition there will be a state-of-the-art conference centre with a grand ballroom for up to 1,100 guests and meeting rooms with the latest communication technology. When complete, the hotel will have 300 rooms, a spa, a fitness centre, casino and a nightclub.
Due to its strategic location at the mouth of the Red Sea and many of the world's busiest shipping lanes, Djibouti is an important transit port for the region which offers international transhipment and refuelling services. The country has some beautiful beaches and offers some exceptional scuba diving and snorkelling. Lake Assal's volcanic formations and the flamingos on Lake Abb'e are also both easily accessible.
