HOTELS Magazine names Giovanni Angelini 2006 Corporate Hotelier of the World
NOVEMBER 15, 2006. Giovanni Angelini, chief executive officer and managing director of Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, yesterday was named '2006 Corporate Hotelier of the World' by HOTELS, the magazine of the worldwide hotel industry.
This award was voted upon by over 60,000 HOTELS' readers in 170 countries.
Mr. Angelini attributes this award to the creation of a stable team of exemplary management and staff. Its dedication to delivering the highest standards of service, and embracing the corporate culture of 'Shangri-La Hospitality from Caring People,' has produced not only the highest profitability in the group's history, but one of the lowest staff turnover ratios in the industry. This record of success is also reflection of the group's investment in training which ranks among the industry's highest.
Since Mr. Angelini assumed his leadership position in 1999, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts has more than doubled in size, growing from 22 to 49 properties in 13 countries and regions today. The expansion has encompassed non-traditional boundaries; today there are 45 projects under development in Canada, mainland China, France, India, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, Maldives, Philippines, Qatar, Seychelles, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States.

Mr. Angelini began his career with Shangri-La family in 1988 as general manager of the Kowloon Shangri-La in Hong Kong. He was named group vice president operations and general manager of the Island Shangri-La, Hong Kong in 1993.
Mr. Angelini's 40+ years' experience in the hospitality industry began in his native country, Italy. He gained further experience in Switzerland, Bermuda, Grand Cayman Islands, Canada and the USA. His 14-year career with Westin took him to Mexico, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Asia Pacific's leading luxury hotel group, currently manages 49 hotels under the five-star Shangri-La and four-star Traders brands, with a rooms inventory of over 23,000.
