CFHLA Awards $49,500 in Scholarships and Grants

Hospitality Educational Institutions

. October 14, 2008

KISSIMEE, FL, NOVEMBER 13, 2006. At Noon, Friday, November 10, 2006, the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association (CFHLA) hosted its scholarship and grants awards luncheon, at the Gaylord Palms Resort and Convention Center, with WOFL-Fox 35 news anchor Tom Johnson, as the special program emcee. CFHLA presented local hospitality students and educational institutions with hospitality programs, with scholarships that collectively totaled $49,500.

CFHLA distributed $1,000 scholarships to twenty two (22) students, from the CFHLA Educational Trust Fund. Six (6) local schools received grants totaling $27,500.

The Educational Trust Fund receives revenue from the CFHLA Bacchus Bash "street party," which is held annually in the March or April. Over 20,000 people attended the 2006 Bacchus Bash celebration, which was held on March 31st at the Orlando Premium Outlets.

"This is one of my favorite luncheons of the year," said Richard Maladecki, President of CFHLA. "All attendees enjoy seeing the look of the student's faces when the actual scholarships are announced. Those scholarships are important to each recipient, and members of the Educational Trust Board feel rewarded for all their work in raising those funds," Maladecki further stated.

Scholarships awarded cover nearly the cost of an entire semester for a full time in-state student at our local hospitality universities, and nearly a full year's tuition for full-time in-state students attending a local community college.

"I was very pleased to see the hospitality scholarship applicants come from a variety of our local schools. We had over 60 student applications this year. What's more, this is the first time we are awarding a scholarship to a High School student and a graduate student!" Maladecki further went on to say.
