Hawthorn Suites’ Revamped Website Features Guest Reviews and Star Ratings

Streamlines Online Bookings

JULY 21, 2008. Hawthorn Suites has redesigned its web site at www.hawthorn.com to enhance online visitors’ experience by providing more features and functionality to help guests streamline their hotel search and booking process. A leading-edge component is the addition of user reviews and star ratings based on comments from previous guests. Another compelling addition is Shopping Cart technology that gives visitors the option to reserve and pay for multiple rooms and hotels in one transaction. Hawthorn Suites is the all-suites, extended stay hotel brand.

“Our new web site not only conveys the enhanced Hawthorn Suites brand identity, but also incorporates a host of Web 2.0 features to better assist travelers when they are evaluating their lodging choices,” said Allison Solomon, Vice President of Electronic Marketing and Distribution for US Franchise Systems, Inc., parent company of the franchisor of the Hawthorn brand. “Today’s travelers are seeking the advice of their peers. By adding guest reviews and ratings to our hotel information, we’re ensuring a balance of facts and opinions so that guests are secure in their decision to stay at Hawthorn Suites.” Feedback for the user reviews is being generated from the brand’s electronic surveys.

To further help manage users’ travel experiences, the Hawthorn Suites web site has added functionality to enable online visitors to easily email hotel information through an ‘Email a Friend’ link, a convenient feature for group planning. Users can also ‘Bookmark this Page’ so that favorite hotel information can be quickly accessed from their browser. In addition, hotel searches are now easier with the integration of an interactive map to better assist travelers in finding hotels by state and international locations. Every hotel information page has also been conveniently structured in one page so users can easily find what they need. And when they’re ready to make a reservation, a completely enhanced booking engine that includes technology to book multiple rooms and multiple hotel stays under one transaction streamlines the transaction process.

Earlier this year, Hawthorn integrated leading edge mapping technology from Google onto its website to provide visitors with a powerful mapping tool to facilitate easier hotel location search capabilities.

Hawthorn Suites offers spacious one-bedroom suites with fully equipped kitchens and studio suites with wet bars. The brand’s new Sweet Suite™ bed provides a great night’s sleep with plush pillow-top mattress with crisp, high thread count linens with triple sheeting and duvet, fitted bed skirt, decorative bed scarf and Euro pillows. Amenities include daily complimentary hot breakfast buffet, Wednesday evening social hour, and free WiFi. Most hotels feature meeting space, swimming pool, exercise facilities, guest laundry, on-site convenience store, valet and grocery shopping services. There are currently 97 Hawthorn Suites hotels open or under construction. For reservations, contact 1-800-527-1133 or TDD 1-800-824-2116 toll-free, or visit http://www.hawthorn.com. All properties are independently owned and operated.

Foodies Take Flight to Fractional Resorts

By Tom LaTour, Principal, LaTour Signature Group

Most of us eat three meals a day, 365 days a year for a total of 1,095 dining experiences. Surely some of these should be memorable, and that’s a key goal for managers at fractional interest resorts. Restaurants and food service are without a doubt the most competitive aspects of the fiercely spirited luxury resort hotel industry...

Room Service Add-ons that Make Money

By Professor Marcel R. Escoffier, School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Florida International University, Miami, Florida.

Room Service should always be a money maker. The necessity to have 24 hour room service in order to have five stars doesn’t mean that the F+B Director can throw up his or her hands and allow it to lose money. I’ve mentioned in previous articles how to keep costs in line in this area. But I hope that you consider adopting some of the money making ideas other hotels have used to make this a profit center...
