REDDING, CA. June 26, 2017 - Warm summer nights and eventful summer days offer visitors endless outdoor activities in Redding and the Shasta Cascade - the majestic region of northeastern California filled with mountains, rivers, lakes and all the outdoor activities that accompany this terrain.

"We have picturesque parks and ranger-led programs where visitors can find summer fun in the great outdoors any time of the day," said T.J. Holmes, the communications coordinator at the Redding Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Not to mention we have a really great craft beer scene that earned itself a weeklong festival. Day or night, Redding brings the fun."

Here are seven cool activities in and around Redding this summer:

1) Redding Beer Week - August 18-26

Toast to your impeccable taste with a celebration of craft breweries and the local establishments who serve them. Redding Beer Week kicks off with the official opening ceremony on Aug. 18, where you can sample 40-plus craft brews all under one roof. The following nine days consist of signature events at local establishments throughout the city.

2) Waterworks Park

Just five minutes from most Redding-area lodging properties, visitors will find the coolest place in Redding: Waterworks Park. Enjoy giant waterslides, the Raging River Run, the Avalanche Slide, wet and wild volleyball in the large activity pool, or just relax in one of many cool, shaded areas. With numerous life guards and ride attendants on site, it's the place to be cool, safe, and fun.

3) Redding Colt 45s Come support Shasta County's 'Boys of Summer' as minor league style baseball hits it big with the Redding Colt 45s. Some of America's top collegiate baseball players and professional prospects are making Shasta County their home this summer under the lights.

4) Whiskeytown Lake's FREE Ranger-Led Kayak & Standup Paddleboard Tours Join Whiskeytown rangers for a special program that pairs parents and their children in a kayak so they can discover and share the joy of nature with each other as they paddle and play. Or, learn a new skill and experience the lake from a fresh perspective with an introduction to standup paddleboarding. Both encourage healthy activity on the pristine Whiskeytown Lake.

5) Moonlight Kayak Tours Experience the dramatic changes in the landscape as you explore Whiskeytown Lake under the light of the moon for a unique kayaking tour. Reservation slots fill up fast for this ranger-led program, so book now.

6) Whiskeytown Star Parties

Experience the splendor of the dark night sky! Because of its unique position nestled within mountain ranges and miles from urban light pollution, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area is a great place to explore the galaxy. The night constellations often elude urban dwellers, but at Whiskeytown, visitors are able to see deep into space aided by powerful telescopes. Or spend the evening with a Sky Ranger at the Oak Bottom Amphitheater and learn about how ancient cultures used the sky to navigate and mark important seasonal changes.

7) Lassen's Dark Sky Festival Join park rangers, astronomers, and astrobiologists in celebrating all that is out of this world during Lassen's Volcanic National Park's Dark Sky Festival Aug. 11-13. Special programs, presentations, hikes, and Junior Ranger Night Explorer activities will be offered during the festival.
