Darrell Pilant Named General Manager of Harrah's Resort Southern California, Succeeding Janet Beronio

. September 12, 2016

VALLEY CENTER, CA. September 12, 2016 - Harrah's Resort Southern California announced today significant changes to its leadership team: Regional President and General Manager Janet Beronio will retire this month, and Darrell Pilant, currently Vice President and Assistant General Manager, will succeed her as the new General Manager. Both executives are highly regarded for their remarkable and enduring careers with the company.

Beronio was named Senior Vice President and General Manager in 2003, but her career with Caesars Entertainment dates back further. She began as Associate General Counsel for Harrah's Entertainment, and later became Vice President and General Manager for Harrah's Ak-Chin in Arizona, where she supervised the management of the company's first Native American-owned gaming property and led the property through nine years of growth. In 2003, Beronio took on her current role at Harrah's Resort Southern California, where she managed the construction and grand opening of a $168 million expansion in 2004; a $160 million revamp in 2014; and, this year, spearheaded a $14 million renovation project that is anticipated to be completed by summer 2017. Throughout all of this growth, Beronio has been a constant, dedicated leader to thousands of employees.

“Janet is a gifted manager, a good friend and a caring person who is highly respected by her team members and peers. During our General Membership meetings, she reported to our tribal members, who always loved working with her. These qualities, along with her keen business sense, have made all the difference in Harrah's Resort Southern California's growth and success,” stated Bo Mazzetti, chairman of the Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians.

“While we will miss Janet, we are looking forward to working with Darrell who is a loyal friend to the tribe. He has strong leadership skills and we are confident he will carry on the tradition of maintaining Harrah's Resort Southern California as the best place to play, and the best place to work,” continued Tribal Chairman Mazzetti. “We have already benefited from his cutting-edge marketing skills and uncanny gift for identifying trends, and we are pleased that he will continue to guide us through constantly evolving markets and industry changes.”

Pilant, who will succeed Beronio as General Manager this September, has been with Caesars Entertainment for 19 years. He began his career in 1997 as First Mate at Harrah's Casino and Hotel in North Kansas City and, over the next 10 years, held positions at seven different locations across the United States, eventually working his way to Assistant General Manager at Harrah's Resort Southern California.

“Darrell began his career on the casino floor and spent many committed years working up to his current title,” said Janet Beronio. “He has an incredibly extensive understanding of the business and I could not be more proud to see him take on this new role. I have no doubt that his stragetic and creative direction will continue to lead Harrah's Resort Southern California to the highest excellence.”

Pilant is a graduate of the United States Merchant Marine Academy, and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve as Lieutenant Commander before retiring.

About The Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians

The Rincon Band of Luiseño Indians traces its ancestry back 10,000 years. The Rincon Tribal Council governs the tribe's 500 members, and has jurisdiction over a 6,000-acre reservation in Valley Center. Established in 1875, the Band is a sovereign government, recognized by the Constitution of the United States, federal law, and court precedent. As such, the tribal government has many responsibilities and powers equal to city, county, state governments, and the federal government, with which tribes have a government-to-government relationship. The Rincon Band owns Harrah's Resort Southern California, and uses profits from this and other commercial enterprises located on reservation, to fund government services on behalf of the Rincon reservation and people. Engaged in an economic partnership with neighboring communities, the Rincon Band shares its good fortune with North County San Diego, through tribal government donations to worthy causes that contribute to the welfare and health of the region. In addition, the Rincon tribal government provides increased fire and police protection to the surrounding communities with a state of the art fire station and contracts with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department for extra law enforcement protection.
