Auburn Marriott Opelika Hotel and Conference Center to Reveal Multi-Year Comprehensive Renovation

. May 03, 2016

OPELIKA, AL. May 3, 2016 - Construction crews have been in overdrive transforming the Auburn Marriott Opelika Hotel and Conference Center at Grand National and their work is almost complete. In early May, Auburn/Opelika's destination and golf hotel major makeover will be complete, just in time for a very busy summer season and the return of The PGA TOUR's Barbasol Championship. The Auburn/Opelika Marriott is completing a multi-year comprehensive renovation. The hotel opened in 2002 and has been consistently ranked Auburn/Opelika's top hotel and golf destination.

"All 129 guest rooms and most common areas have been renovated, including guest corridors and lobbies, as well as the ballroom and meeting rooms," said Kevin Cross, general manager at the Auburn/Opelika Marriott. “Guest rooms have been completely remodeled to include 49-inch televisions and a full wall mural of golf scenes shot at the Robert Trent Jones courses at Grand National," he said. "The guest baths have been upgraded and outfitted with granite vanities and full glass shower surrounds. The exciting new design is modern and fresh for today's traveler. We look forward to all renovations complete as we prepare to welcome our Barbasol guests and others looking to enjoy Camp Soaring Summer activities.”

While the renovated guest rooms will all be available for use in May, a formal Renovation Reveal is planned for Thursday, June 2 in conjunction with the Opelika and Auburn Chambers of Commerce. The event will be from 5 to 7 p.m. and feature food, drinks, live entertainment and tours of the renovated hotel.

Renovation Overview

Completed late last year, a renovation of the more than 15,000 square feet of total meeting space and guest lobby areas were freshened, creating a more welcome and contemporary atmosphere. This portion of the renovation saw these areas receive quite a facelift, with new carpet, wall coverings, draperies, and furnishings, all with a local, Auburn flair.

Future plans for later in the year include a luxurious makeover of the Presidential Suite, as well as the hotel's Lakeview Room Restaurant and Fairways Lounge. The concept behind the revamping of the two dining outlets is to create a more open and inviting feel, connecting the inside with the hotel's incredible backyard.

“Most return guests have been very excited about the newly renovated product adding to the comfort of the surrounding grounds and recreational components of the expansive feature pool and tennis complex,” Cross said. "We've been here 14 years and want to continue delivering the experience our guests deserve. This renovation does just that.”

Camp Soaring Summer Activities Begins May 1

The culmination of the renovation comes just in time for the ever-popular Camp Soaring Summer program. Poolside games, family dining, tennis, pickleball and golf are typical during a stay at the Auburn/Opelika Marriott, but the hotel's summer guests are in for a real adventure at Camp Soaring Summer. The Camp Soaring Summer programs returns for its third year and offers a variety of free experiences for hotel guests, diners and National Village residents.

“Where else can families enjoy a day by the pool, see magnificent eagles from the Southeastern Raptor Center, learn to play pickleball, and end the evening with gourmet S'mores, fireside,” said Cross. “Camp Soaring Summer celebrates strong Auburn/Opelika traditions and has something for everyone from toddlers to seniors. Some of the other fun events featured will be nightly live music, our signature beverage rituals, dive-in movies, and Bloody Mary/Mimosa bars. The free program starts on May 1st and runs through August 31, 2016.
