John "JP" Oliver Appointed Vice President and Managing Director of The New Confidante Hotel in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt

. April 12, 2016

CHICAGO, IL. April 12, 2016 - John “JP” Oliver has been named vice president and managing director of The Confidante and vice president of lifestyle - Americas, Hyatt. Currently operating as Thompson Miami Beach, the hotel is expected to convert on April 25 to The Confidante, the newest property in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt.

Oliver's hospitality career spans nearly 30 years, beginning with management positions at various Hyatt hotels. Most recently he served as regional vice president southeast for Morgans Hotel Group, overseeing the Delano, Shore Club and Mondrian hotels in South Beach. Previously, Oliver spent more than 15 years in various positions with LXR Hotels & Resorts, formerly Wyndham International.

“Under JP's leadership, The Confidante will bring a new and story-worthy experience to Miami Beach,” said Marc Ellin, senior vice president of operations, luxury and lifestyle brands - Americas, Hyatt. “We are excited to welcome JP back to the Hyatt family and tap into his passion for our newest brand. I also look forward to JP assisting me over time with our growing lifestyle brands.”

The Confidante is a mid-century modern designed hotel with bright colors, whimsical accents, historical details and a relaxed, elegant vibe. Drawing inspiration from the golden era of Miami, it features 363 guestrooms including 30 suites, two restaurants, two heated swimming pools, direct beach access, a rooftop spa, a full service salon, an indoor/outdoor fitness experience, in-room dining, a craft cocktail bar, and a lush tropical garden. It will also house approximately 35,000+ square feet of indoor and outdoor flexible, multi-functional venue space.

“I am honored to be rejoining Hyatt and working alongside such a professional and energetic team, who will bring The Confidante experience to life for our guests and the local community,” said John “JP” Oliver. “The Confidante is rich in its history with endless stories to be told, and being in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, we will have the freedom to make this new hotel distinctly unique for its guests, while having the resources of Hyatt at our disposal.”

With deep historical roots in Miami Beach, The Confidante is a three-towered property that pays homage to the vibrant feeling of the city in the 1950s. Serving at one time as the tallest modern building in Miami Beach, the hotel originally opened as the 18-floor Lord Tarleton Hotel on Collins Avenue, making headlines and representing a boom for the city's economy. In 1955, it reopened as the Crown Hotel and was later converted into a three-tower apartment building.

The Unbound Collection by Hyatt Along with The Confidante, The Unbound Collection by Hyatt has properties around the world, including The Driskill Hotel in Austin, Texas; the Hotel du Louvre in Paris, France; the Carmelo Resort & Spa in Carmelo, Uruguay; and the Coco Palms Resort in Kauai, Hawaii, which is expected to undergo a revitalization and re-open in spring 2018.
