Rosemont, IL - January 6, 2016 - Rosemont, Illinois-based First Hospitality Group, Inc. (FHG) announced that it has acquired the Grand Plaza Hotel in Toledo, Ohio. FHG President and CEO Robert Habeeb made the announcement.

The 241-room hotel will undergo a multi-million dollar renovation, which is expected to begin within the first quarter of 2016 and slated for completion sometime during the fourth quarter of 2016. Upon completion, the hotel will reopen as a Renaissance by Marriott.

“The re-positioning of this prominently located hotel will contribute to the ongoing revitalization efforts of the downtown Toledo marketplace,” said Habeeb. “The upgrades we are implementing will truly transform the property and our award-winning Midwestern management team will ensure that guests, even those in town strictly for business, will find it easy to experience rich local flavors.” Renovations will be made throughout the hotel including room finishes, shower conversions and all new furniture in guestrooms. Improvements will also be made in the 25,000-square-foot event space—part of which is a 10,800-square-foot ballroom, the lobby and public spaces. Upon completion, the hotel will feature a three-meal upscale restaurant on the lobby level and, the most exciting feature of the property, an open-air rooftop bar and eatery that will provide sweeping views of the Maumee River and Toledo skyline, both of which will be open to the public. In addition, guests will be able to enjoy a fitness center, business center and underground pedway that connects the hotel to the Vistula parking.

FHG has engaged an internationally recognized interior design and architecture firm to spearhead the new hotel design, and a local contractor to execute on the engineering and construction work.

Located on the banks of the Maumee River in downtown Toledo, the hotel will be the ideal location for guests staying for business or leisure in the Toledo marketplace. The hotel is directly connected to Imagination Station and within a few minutes of the Seagate Convention Center, the Huntington Center, Hollywood Casino, Toledo Museum of Art, Fifth Third Field, home to the Toledo Mud Hens, and the Toledo Zoo. Business travelers can enjoy close proximity to companies such as Owens Corning, Libbey, Fifth Third Bank, HCR ManorCare, the new ProMedica campus downtown and more.
