. August 27, 2015

HONOLULU, HI. August 27, 2015 - On Tuesday, August 18, a formal groundbreaking and Hawaiian blessing ceremony was held at the Hilo Naniloa Hotel and Golf Club, located on Hawaii's Big Island.

The ceremony was held to celebrate a $20-million restoration project that is expected to last until spring 2016, when the iconic property will be repositioned as a destination hotel and re-launched by management company Aqua-Aston Hospitality as the DoubleTree by Hilton Hilo at the Naniloa. Attendees included Tower Development ownership group president, Ed Bushor; Hilo mayor, Billy Kenoi; former Honolulu mayor and current CEO of Hawaii Lodging & Tourism Association, Mufi Hanneman; local government officials; hotel employees; and local music icon Willie K.

In addition to increasing the number of guest rooms from 150 to 388, the restoration project will include upgrades to all guest rooms, the lobby, lounge, and banquet facilities; a new waterfront restaurant and poolside bar; a fitness center; retail shops; and a concert hall and event space where Willie K. will headline. Upon completion the banquet and meeting facilities will be the premier facilities on the east side of Hawaii Island, and will take advantage of the breathtaking views of Hilo Bay and the Hamakua Coastline. The on-property golf course will also enjoy upgrades to the clubhouse, fairways, green and bunkers.
