. April 20, 2015

SAN FRANCISCO, CA. - April 20, 2015. Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants announced today it has been awarded the management contract for two Washington, D.C. hotels - The Carlyle - Dupont Circle and the Savoy Suites Hotel in the city's Glover Park neighborhood - that will be converted to Kimpton-branded properties. Both hotels are existing properties owned by Foxhall Partners and Iron Point Partners. The additions - both of which are undergoing extensive renovation to fit the Kimpton style and standards of boutique service - bring the company's total number of hotels in the District to 10, the highest concentration for the brand in any U.S. city. Kimpton's Mid-Atlantic region, including neighboring Alexandria, Virginia and Baltimore, Maryland, has now expanded to include 14 hotels.

Located just two and a half blocks northeast of Dupont Circle in the heart of a thriving restaurant and nightlife scene, The Carlyle - Dupont Circle, a Kimpton Hotel, is also within walking distance of over a dozen art galleries, museums and attractions including The Phillips Collection and the National Gallery of Art. The Carlyle is undergoing an extensive renovation of the public spaces, restaurant and guestrooms that will expand the hotel from 170 to 198 rooms, including 56 that offer full service, state-of-the-art kitchenettes, which are ideal for extended stay travelers and families. The revamped Art Deco gem will meld classic style with modern flair, introducing clean lines, polished finishes and a touch of 1920s nostalgia.

World renowned artist Michele Oka Doner agreed to collaborate on an exclusive basis with Foxhall's hospitality group to lead the design and concept creation of The Carlyle - Dupont Circle as her first hotel project in the United States. The hotel will be restored to its original grandeur as an Art Deco landmark. The interior design draws on her Miami Beach Art Deco roots and features inspired modern artwork and handcrafted chandeliers customized to highlight The Carlyle's history. The hotel will also debut a membership quality fitness center, Washington's Urban Athletic Club, founded by Graham King, and 3,000 square feet of flexible meeting space when it reopens in May 2015 as a Kimpton hotel.

In addition, The Carlyle will also house a restaurant helmed by renowned Chef Michael Schlow, who was named "Best Chef in the Northeast" by the James Beard Foundation and operates the popular TICO restaurant on D.C.'s 14th Street corridor. The new restaurant slated to open this summer will be called The Riggsby, featuring an open kitchen and whimsical decor from designer Brian Miller of Edit Lab at Streetsense. With a focus on American dishes pulling in European influences, Chef Schlow's inspired menus will also delight guests planning meetings and events at the hotel. In-room dining will be provided by The Riggsby as well.

Situated in the heart of the Glover Park neighborhood, less than a mile north of Georgetown University and close to Embassy Row and the Washington National Cathedral, the Savoy Suites is currently undergoing extensive renovations to its room, living room and public spaces that are slated for completion in early 2016 at which point it will become a completely Kimpton-branded property incorporating the brand's signature programs, amenities and eligible for Kimpton Karma Rewards redemptions.

"Washington has been a thriving market for Kimpton over the years, and it's great to be able to add these two new properties to our portfolio to keep up with the incredible demand we continue to see here," said Barry Pollard, senior vice president of hotel operations. "Once renovations are complete and all the signature Kimpton amenities and programs are in place, The Carlyle - Dupont Circle and Savoy Suites will provide even more diversity to our offerings in the capital."
