March 24, 2015 - Smyth, a Thompson Hotel has announced the appointment of Christopher R. Shiel as Director of Sales and Marketing. Shiel brings more than seven years of experience in the hospitality industry to the Tribeca hotel. He is responsible for all sales and marketing efforts of the boutique hotel, which recently unveiled a completely transformed lobby space designed by Gachot Studios. As part of the hotel's re-launch, Little Park and Evening Bar from award-winning restaurateurs Chef Andrew Carmellini, Luke Ostrom and Josh Pickard, opened.

“We are pleased to welcome Christopher to our team,” said Smyth General Manager Pedro Dias. “His extensive knowledge of the industry and the Tribeca neighborhood will prove invaluable as he takes on this leadership role at the hotel.”

Shiel joins the hotel from Denihan Hospitality Group where he spent the last four years working in sales for the properties Affinia Fifty, Affinia Gardens and The Benjamin in New York. During his tenure as Director of Sales, he oversaw the complete repositioning of Affinia Fifty following a $20 million renovation.

Prior to working with Denihan Hospitality Group, Shiel began his career with InterContinental Hotels Group's New York sales division. Starting as a Sales and Marketing Coordinator, he worked his way up to Corporate Sales Manager where he negotiated sales contracts with Fortune 500 companies.

Shiel graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Marketing from Quinnipiac University. He currently resides in the Upper East Side of Manhattan and enjoys spending his free time traveling, with explorations throughout South America, Europe, Africa and Asia.
