Chelsea Hotels Completes $30 million Renovation of Historic Martha Washington Hotel

NEW YORK - March 12, 2015 - Chelsea Hotels is proud to announce the completion of the final phase of its latest hotel the Martha Washington Hotel, a landmark Renaissance Revival property in Manhattan's NoMad neighborhood. This $30 million renovation project designed by Annabelle Selldorf includes new state-of-the-art meeting and events space, Veronica's lobby bar and lounge, and Marta, a new Italian restaurant from Danny Meyer's world-renowned Union Square Hospitality Group, led by Chef Nick Anderer. Also included are newly refreshed rooms, corridors and building façade.

Located at 29 East 29th Street, the Martha Washington extends through an entire city block and is just a stone's throw from Fifth, Madison, and Park Avenues, Dover Street Market, Greenmarket, The Flatiron Building, Manhattan's "Silicon Alley," and Madison Square Park. Its accessible rates, and location at the heart of one of Manhattan's fastest growing neighborhoods, make the hotel an ideal and convenient base for guests. As a luxurious, full-service hotel for the first time, the Martha Washington features 261 fully-appointed rooms and suites equipped with HD flat screen TV's, complimentary Wi-Fi and wired in-room internet access, luxurious Bellino Italian linens, Italian Davines bath amenities, and room service from Marta. Martha Washington also offers an expert concierge service, a 24-hour fitness center, and over 7,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting, event and private dining space with cutting-edge audio and visual technology. The second floor meeting and event space features dramatic windows with Juliette balconies, a scenic outdoor terrace featuring heated floors, and a multi-functional ballroom with over 2,700 square feet and seating for up to 200 guests. For more intimate receptions, the hotel features a private dining room and several other spaces that can hold 30-90 guests. To further enhance the guest experience, catering and custom-menu packages for all private events are provided by Union Square Hospitality Group.

Located in the hotel lobby, Marta is a lively new restaurant inspired by the tradition of the rustic Roman pizzeria. The menu features classic thin-crust pizzas made with local ingredients along with a selection of meat, fish, and vegetables - all kissed by the fire. Marta is open throughout the week, serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Drawing inspiration from Martha Washington's rich history - a turn-of-the-century refuge for creative and entrepreneurial woman such as Eleanor Roosevelt, poet Sara Teasdale, notable editor Louise E. Drew and actresses Louise Brooks and Veronica Lake, to name a few - Veronica's bar and lounge offers a variety of unique cocktails and a full menu by Marta. Service begins at 4pm daily.
