WASHINGTON - February 13, 2015 - Association TRENDS honored the U.S. Travel Association with two distinguished awards for the group's exceptional advocacy and communications work.

Patricia Rojas-Ungár, U.S. Travel's vice president of government relations, was recognized as one of the five leading association lobbyists nationwide. And U.S. Travel's "Friday Check-In" video series, featuring President and CEO Roger Dow, received the highest honor for daily or weekly communication by an association.
Association TRENDS presented the awards at a formal ceremony last week.

"These honors are a testament to the extraordinary accomplishments of our staff, members and industry champions," said Dow. "Travel has an inspiring story to share, from the millions of people it employs to the incredible recovery it has made in the last decade. We thank Association TRENDS for this recognition, and we proudly share this moment with all of our travel champions."

Rojas-Ungár led U.S. Travel's highly successful campaign to improve the entry process at major U.S. gateway airports. The results were impressive: President Barack Obama issued an executive memo calling for a national goal to improve service levels for international arrivals, and Congress approved resources to hire 2,000 new Customs and Border Protection officers.

Rojas-Ungár was also instrumental in securing reauthorizing of Brand USA in the omnibus spending bill late last year. The five-year statutory renewal of America's travel promotion program followed an exhaustive, full-throttle push on Capitol Hill and across the nation.

To keep members informed on the latest travel news and developments from Washington, D.C., U.S. Travel in 2014 launched "Friday Check-In"—a video message series for the industry featuring Dow. The "Friday Check-In" messages have been recorded in well-known destinations nationwide, including travel sector events in Orlando, Churchill Downs in Louisville and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport just outside the nation's capital.
