Salt Hotels Redefines the Rules with New Boutique Hotel Brand

Hospitality Veterans Form New Brand Based on Ultra-Successful Flagship 'Salt House Inn'

. January 23, 2015

Provincetown, MA - January 23, 2015 - On the heels of opening the highly successful Salt House Inn in Provincetown, Massachusetts, owners David Bowd and Kevin O'Shea have launched Salt Hotels, a new hotel brand that redefines the concept of a traditional bed and breakfast with a fresh, contemporary “no rules” approach.

Focusing on smaller properties, Salt Hotels sets out to integrate the design, amenities, technology and quality of a large urban boutique hotel with the personalized service, unique character and community connections of a bed and breakfast. Guests no longer have to sacrifice exceptional service for a design-led experience or vice versa; Salt Hotels provides both and on a level that feels intimate, connected and selected just for them.

“With the incredibly warm reception that Salt House Inn received, we are excited to dedicate that vision and ethos to an entire brand. Salt Hotels will offer guests more freedom and a more personalized relaxed experience. We will always focus on the values and amenities that seem to really matter to our guests, rather than on rules and unnecessary formalities,” said David Bowd, Chief Executive and Co-Founder, Salt Hotels. “Judging the industry interest we have received in new development opportunities, it appears there is a void in the market which is generating strong demand for the type of property that Salt Hotels creates.”

The brand's current portfolio includes two properties in Provincetown: the much-lauded, award-winning Salt House Inn which opened in 2013 and the new Eben House, opening spring 2015; as well as a soon-to-be announced property, slated for early summer 2015 opening. Additional projects under development include New York, Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Denver, and London.

Four cornerstone differences are what set Salt Hotels apart in the industry. These services and philosophies are at the core of each property and what make the guest experience truly exceptional.

RULES REDFINED - Salt Hotels abolished many of the staid traditional hotels rules that are distracting, unwelcoming and unnecessary, especially at B&Bs. The properties have no formal check- in time, rather each guest is contacted in advance regarding their arrival and housekeeping is scheduled accordingly. This “no rules” sensibility extends to amenities as well, including complimentary WIFI and parking; all very simple fundamentals that have a big impact on the overall quality of a guest's experience.

BREAKFAST REDEFINED - With no prepackaged muffins or tiny cereal boxes in sight, guests are treated to a complimentary and generous selection of freshly prepared items each morning. The changing daily menu is influenced by seasonal ingredients and is artfully presented to include homemade, freshly baked pastries, house-made granola, rustic hot savory dishes and daily changing yogurt parfaits. When guests are not in the mood to dine in the breakfast room, Salt Hotels brings breakfast to their room, an amenity virtually unheard of at traditional, rule-defined B&Bs.

CONCIERGE REDEFINED - Salt Hotels curates experiences for guests in the local community. Beyond just securing restaurant reservations, Salt Hotels recommends dining experiences that provide the same exceptional quality and service that guests find at the hotel. The same is true for local attractions and activities by the hotel's exhaustive vetting and filtering to carefully chosen experiences that hold the same standards. Upon check-in guests receive a curated, customized local map with Kevin and David's top recommendations for off-the-beaten path and authentic experiences. With well-established relationships with key local businesses, they ensure guests are held in the highest regard.

AMENITIES REDFINED - Despite the properties intimate size, guests are treated to the same amenities typically associated with large hotels. These include custom mattresses and luxury bedding, hand-selected bath amenities and signature services such as Breakfast in Bed. The company has sourced some of the most exceptional and forward-thinking products to elevate the guest experience, seeking out like-minded brands that share their same passion and commitment to excellence.

“Salt Hotels is a creative spin on a traditional hospitality product, born out of our business acumen and industry expertise. We love rethinking how traditional hotels are structured, marketed, and sold,” said Kevin O'Shea, Creative Director and Co-Founder, Salt Hotels. “As a brand, we are not afraid to take risks or approach common problems in new and unique ways, all backed by a combined expertise that delivers a solid, innovative product to our guests.”

The redefined model that Salt Hotels is creating targets secondary markets currently underserved by design-led properties, as well as primary markets lacking intimate accommodations that feel personal and exceptional. The hotels are focused around the communities they inhabit and strive to provide guests with a sense of place across all aspects of their experience.
