Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants Set to Open the 248-room Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania

. January 13, 2015

PITTSBURGH, PA - January 13, 2015 - On January 20th, U.S. boutique hotel pioneer Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will debut its first property in The Steel City. Kimpton's Hotel Monaco is downtown Pittsburgh's first upper-upscale boutique hotel, located at the corner of 6th Avenue and William Penn Place, and will undoubtedly change the city's hospitality scene. Boasting an eclectic one-of-a-kind design, Kimpton's renowned amenities, and top-notch customer care, Hotel Monaco will have passersby and visitors alike clamoring to see what all the fuss is about as the anything-but-bashful hotel opens its doors in this month.

A company with an eco-friendly ethos, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will once again prove its expertise in the meticulous refurbishment of landmark historic buildings, transforming Pittsburgh's iconic Beaux Arts-style James H. Reed Building, originally built in 1903, into a nine-story, 248-guestroom hotel with more than 11,000-square-feet of meeting space. The hotel is Kimpton's 11th Hotel Monaco in a collection of more than 60 properties in the U.S. and its 13th adaptive reuse project.

The Hotel Monaco Pittsburgh will feature bold and clever design that celebrates the original Beaux Arts architecture and adds pops of modern, playfully unafraid patterns, textures and designs. Touches of local flavor are evident throughout; the hotel's color palette features bold yellow, black, and white hues, the city's signature colors and those of its professional sports teams and the hues of its flag.

The new hotel will also serve as a mecca for those seeking unique and inspired event spaces for social gatherings, intimate weddings, and innovative corporate meetings. The hotel's six event spaces, including the picturesque Sheffield and Sofia Ballrooms boasting floor-to-ceiling windows that face 6th Avenue, will provide event planners with flexible meeting rooms, on-site event planning, and inspired catering menus. The Hotel Monaco's meeting rooms, named after Pittsburgh notables - Clemente, Salk, Carson, and Fahlman, are currently being sold for future events.

As in every Kimpton hotel, notes of playfulness and creativity greet guests around every corner. From luxe, patterned robes to a daily hosted evening wine hour, guests will be reminded of the fun and relaxation that travel is meant to impart whether in town for a big meeting or for a Steelers Sunday. Each guest room will include amenities such as a 39" flat screen TV, wireless internet, Bluetooth sound systems, in-room spa services, on-demand movies, and gourmet honor bar selections including hometown favorites such as Clark Bars and a selection of Pennsylvania beers. The guestroom bathrooms are unmistakably bright and cheery, donning soft yellow herringbone wallpaper.

Company-wide, Kimpton offers signature programs to ensure a flawlessly comfortable visit each time such as its "Forgot It? We've Got It" program, stocking the front desk with the forgetful traveler's every need, a welcoming pet-friendly policy, and a dedication to health and wellness through on site fitness centers and in-room yoga mats. Each Kimpton hotel also provides complimentary bicycles, designed in partnership with San Francisco-based PUBLIC Bikes Company, that are available for guests to use during their stay.

"As a native of this great city, I could not be more proud to be opening this unique hotel in my hometown," said General Manager Rob Mallinger. "Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants will fundamentally change the hospitality landscape in Pittsburgh, offering personalized amenities and unparalleled service to guests in the city."

Adjacent to the Hotel Monaco at the corner of William Penn Place and Strawberry Way, Kimpton will also open a new modern American eatery led by veteran Executive Chef Dennis Marron. At this 120-seat restaurant called The Commoner, guests will enjoy comforting wood-fire dishes, a selection of local ales and spirits, and a vibrant design that both welcomes and inspires.
