. December 01, 2014

Washington, DC - December 1,2014 - Washington DC's iconic Mayflower hotel announces that construction has officially commenced on the highly anticipated $20 million room renovations project. This initiative marks the final phase of the hotel's top-to-bottom renovations, with all 583 rooms and 74 suites receiving a stylish makeover set to be complete in March 2015.

"It's an exciting time for The Mayflower to begin our renovation and soon showcase our stylish new guest rooms," said Director of Sales, Michael Hennessy. "We have talked extensively to meeting planners and attendees and are confident the new rooms at The Mayflower, along with our unique group and convention spaces, will exceed expectations."

Open for business during the project, the construction will take place floor by floor, minimizing the impact to the guest experience. The distinctive new room designs and finishes take inspiration from the hotel's royal past while emphasizing its present day relevance and vitality. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Historic Hotels of America, The Mayflower Renaissance Hotel is known for its sense of style and elegance. Using a crisp palette of warm grays with furnishings of refined wood, stone, glass and upholstery in playful jewel tones, each room will feature sleek contemporary finishes energized by vibrant art work and classic vintage-inspired black and white marble bathrooms accented with wood tone washstand-style vanity and bright wallpaper. Guests will be treated to a wall of fame, a wallpaper recreation of the hotel's guest book behind the bed, complete with artistic versions of signatures of famous guests including President John F. Kennedy, Amelia Earhart, Winston Churchill, Sophia Loren and J. Edgar Hoover. Each room will be outfitted with a flat screen TV, high-speed wireless, a moveable C-table creating a flexible work area, accessible outlets and an iPod docking station.
