. October 24, 2014

Palma de Mallorca, Spain - October 24, 2014 - Today, leading Spanish hotel company Meliá Hotels International announced the signature of two luxury hotels in Qatar and Indonesia. The future Meliá Doha will open during the first quarter of 2015, and Gran Meliá Bintan will open in 2017.

Meliá Doha will occupy 39 floors of Bin Samickh tower, located in Doha's West Bay, the most coveted area of the capital. The hotel will consist of 282 rooms and suites as well as a wide range of restaurants and spa facilities. Alongside the Chairman and CEO of Tamniyat Qatar Real Estate, the property owner and developer, Gabriel Escarrer, Vice Chairman and CEO of Meliá Hotels International, explained the importance of Qatar as a destination, supported by its economic prosperity - the country has the highest income per capita in the world - and its growing influence in various areas.

"The Arabian Gulf is a natural focus for the expansion of our luxury brands, and the signature of the Meliá Doha brings a guarantee of solvency and quality management to this important property, while at the same time representing a partnership and commitment between two important business groups with a solid foundation and family values," noted Gabriel Escarrer. "Meliá Hotels International has been a major player in the travel booms in critical international destinations, such as Spain and the Caribbean. As with the new signature in Indonesia and Qatar, Meliá Hotels International will continue to expand in critical international destinations."

Meliá Hotels International has a long and successful track record in Indonesia where it built its first international hotel in the 1980s. Today, Meliá Bali remains a benchmark hotel both in Bali and Indonesia, and Meliá Hotels International currently manages and is in the process of opening an additional five hotels in the country. On this occasion, Gabriel Escarrer visited Jakarta to sign an agreement with the owners of Bintan Resorts, an extraordinary destination on the island of Bintan, the new mecca for luxury travel in Southeast Asia and an exceptional destination for neighboring and well-connected countries such as Singapore and Malaysia.

Gran Meliá Bintan will be the second Gran Meliá hotel in Indonesia, representing the synthesis of timeless luxury with the passion for service provided by Meliá Hotels International throughout its nearly 70 years of history. The extensive, Mediterranean style resort will consist of 120 spacious suites and 38 villas with one, two or four bedrooms.
