Catherine Ann Johns Joins Sofitel New York as Director of Sales

NEW YORK - August 27, 2014 - Sofitel New York has appointed a new director of sales: Catherine Ann Johns. She brings 12 years of hospitality and event management expertise to her position.

“Catherine's depth of experience extends to every aspect of luxury meetings and events management, from sales through concept and execution,” said Balendra Nagesvaran, vice president of hotel operations for North America. “She is a natural leader and an excellent addition to the Sofitel New York management team.”

Johns comes to Sofitel from Hyatt Hotel Corporation, where, most recently, she was director of catering and convention services for the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa in Honolulu. Her positions with Hyatt also include meeting and events director for the Andaz Fifth Avenue in New York and director of catering at the Park Hyatt Washington in Washington, D.C. Before joining Hyatt, she served as catering sales manager for The Hay-Adams in Washington, D.C.

Johns' earlier experience includes consulting for two event-planning companies serving the Washington, D.C. metro region: Engaging Affairs Inc. and Windows Catering Company. She launched her career in 2002 as a special events and sales associate at the Lehmann Maupin Gallery in New York.

A graduate of The University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Johns' charitable involvements include the New York Public Library Young Lions, Young Benefactors of the Smithsonian Institution, and Surfrider Foundation.
