Finch Bay Hotel Takes Top Title at World Travel Awards

. August 15, 2014

August 15, 2014 - The Galapagos Islands' Finch Bay Hotel has been recognized as South America's leading Green Hotel by the World Travel Awards for the third consecutive year.

Celebrated at a VIP ceremony at the spectacular Itchimbía Cultural Centre in Quito, the event was attended by South America's most renowned hoteliers, travel gurus and industry experts. Serving to recognize the world's finest travel, tourism and hospitality organizations, the awards span seven continents celebrating the very best in the global travel trade.

Upon receiving the award, general manager Xavier Burbano de Lara commented: “The award is a reflection of the dedication and love which our team shows every day of the year and our commitment to the people and unique ecosystem of the Galápagos Islands.”

Since opening, The Finch Bay has continually led the way in sustainable practices, implementing a number of key energy-saving measures throughout the hotel. Initiatives include the use of solar panels across the resort saving 50-70 per cent of the energy required to heat water, a composting system which enriches the hotel's organic vegetable, fruit and herb garden and the installation of their very own water treatment plant, making the Finch Bay the only hotel in Puerto Ayora to have one.

In the context of such a treasured location, the hotel's staff actively embrace their responsibility to continue these practices and encourage guests to do the same during their stay.
