Mayflower Renaissance Hotel Renovating All Suites and Guest Rooms

. July 15, 2014

July 15, 2014 - The Grand Dame of D.C. hotels is updating her look. A bastion of elegance since she opened her doors in 1925, The Mayflower Renaissance Hotel is entering the final phase of a top-to-bottom renovation, with all 583 rooms and 74 suites scheduled for a stylish makeover starting October 16, 2014.

The $20 million rooms project, spearheaded by The Gettys Group design firm, will maintain the 10-story hotel's historic pedigree while updating its look and outfitting each guest room with the latest amenities and new media.

“As we welcome the next generation of traveler, we're very keen to stay connected to our illustrious past,” said John Montano, general manager of The Mayflower Renaissance Hotel. “From Presidential inaugural speeches to occasions of intrigue and scandal, The Mayflower has set the stage for Washington's influencers through the decades. The renovation will pay homage to our past while dressing the hotel up in grand style for the future.”

Open for business during the project, the construction will take place floor by floor, minimizing the impact to the guest experience. “We're fortunate that The Mayflower has solid bones,” said Montano. “The noise will be kept to a minimum. And our reservation department will manage the flow of guests to keep them comfortable and out of range of the construction.”

The much-anticipated rooms renovation will bring the entire hotel onto the same fashionable page. All public spaces have already been re-imagined, including nearly 43,000 square feet of non-traditional configurable conference and events space across 27 rooms, with the notable addition of the 3,000 square foot Promenade Ballroom. In December 2012, the hotel opened Edgar Bar & Kitchen, a popular American brasserie.

The distinctive new room designs and finishes take inspiration from the hotel's royal past while emphasizing its present day relevance and vitality. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places and Historic Hotels of America, The Mayflower Renaissance Hotel is known for its sense of style and elegance. Using a crisp palette of neutral grays accented with regal purple, each room will feature sleek contemporary finishes energized by vibrant art work and vintage-inspired black and white marble bathrooms accented with warm wood. Guests will be treated to a wall of fame, a wallpaper recreation of the hotel's guest book behind the bed, complete with artistic versions of signatures of famous guests including President John F. Kennedy, Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindbergh and J. Edgar Hoover. Each room will be outfitted with a 36-inch flat screen TV, high speed wireless, an ergonomic work area and an iPod docking station.

Proclaimed by President Truman to be Washington, D.C.'s "Second Best Address" after the White House, the hotel was said to have had more gold leaf than any other U.S. building except the Library of Congress. With its Connecticut Avenue location near Dupont Circle, guests enjoy close proximity to the White House, Metro stops, dining and cultural hot spots in a hospitable setting second to none.
