McLEAN, VA - February 28, 2011 - Embassy Suites Hotels today announced the opening of Embassy Suites Houston-Downtown—a property registered for LEED certification for its sustainable design, construction and operation as recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council. It is the second hotel within the Embassy Suites brand to pursue LEED certification. Once approved by Green Building Council members, it will be the first LEED-certified hotel in downtown Houston. The property is the city's first privately-developed, full-service hotel built from the ground up in Houston's Central Business District in 28 years.

“We're thrilled to welcome Embassy Suites Houston-Downtown as the third Embassy Suites in the Houston area,” said Jim Holthouser, global head of Embassy Suites Hotels and full service brands, Hilton Worldwide. “Now guests can enjoy all of Embassy Suites Hotels' great offerings in the heart of the city's central business district.”

Overlooking Discovery Green Park and the George R. Brown Convention Center, the 262 all-suite hotel is located at 1515 Dallas Street and LaBranch. Its sustainable features include 262 suites fitted with a “smart switch” that turns off all the lights when a guest leaves the suite. A hotel-wide recycling plan, water and energy conservation programs and a non-smoking program, making the property 100% smoke-free, complement the hotel's eco-friendly approach.

Just steps from Toyota Center and Minute Maid Park and blocks from shopping, dining and entertainment at the Houston Pavilions, the property is developed and managed by Houston-based American Liberty Hospitality. It also contains 6,000 square feet of flexible function space.

“We recognized that convention attendees, individual travelers and leisure guests were looking for a full service, all-suite hotel option in the central business district of Houston,” said Nick Massad, CEO, American Liberty Hospitality. “We were pleased to work with the Hilton team to bring the Embassy Suites Hotels brand, along with all of its great amenities and offerings for business and leisure travelers, to the area. And we're excited to open our doors just in time to host guests for the 2011 NCAA Men's Final Four Basketball Championship in April.”

The stylish, urban high-rise hotel features spacious, two-room suites with a separate living area, private bedroom and wet bar fitted with a microwave, mini-fridge and coffee maker. Suites are equipped with complimentary high-speed Internet access, two flat-panel, high-definition televisions, in-room safes and two, dual-line phones.

Guests can enjoy all the signature features of Embassy Suites Hotels, including complimentary cooked-to-order breakfast, evening Manager's Reception, Pantry Store and 24-hour Business Center. A roofscape pool and spa, 24-hour Fitness Center, street-level cafe and lounge and two levels of underground valet parking complete the guest experience.

The hotel received Hilton's “Deal of the Year,” a prestigious award in the hospitality industry, and was recently named “Official Hotel of the Houston Rockets” basketball team.
