Fairmont Brand Recognized World-Wide for Luxury, Service and Commitment to Sustainability

. January 07, 2010

PITTSBURGH, PA., January 5, 2010 - Pittsburgh's eagerly anticipated premier luxury hotel, Fairmont Pittsburgh, is set to open March 29, 2010. The new hotel will feature 185 guest rooms, 12,000 square feet of event space, and a 6,000 square-foot health club, as well as a full-service restaurant, Habitat, and its feature bar, “Andys.”

The new Fairmont makes its home at Three PNC Plaza, the largest high rise construction project in the City of Pittsburgh in the last 20 years, and one of the largest mixed-use buildings to be certified by the United States Green Building Council in accordance with its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) rating system. By its opening, Fairmont Pittsburgh expects to reach the Gold level of LEED certification which complements Fairmont's philosophy of operational sustainability and responsible tourism.

“We are thrilled to introduce the Fairmont reputation of luxury and exceptional service to Pittsburgh and pleased that Pittsburghers have already begun recognizing it as the luxury brand in the city,” said Len Czarnecki, General Manager for Fairmont Pittsburgh. “We look forward to sharing our enthusiasm for the city, its rich culture and its unique neighborhoods with our guests.”

Fairmont Pittsburgh celebrates the city of Pittsburgh's artistic and industrial history with a design concept that embodies both art and industry. Glass and steel elements are used prominently throughout the hotel, as well as locally-inspired touches in the guest rooms, Habitat restaurant, Andys bar and other public spaces. In addition to the artifacts uncovered during early site excavation, original artwork by Pittsburgh artists and locally-commissioned photography are showcased in guest rooms and throughout the hotel.

Fairmont Pittsburgh features 165 guest rooms, 19 suites and one presidential suite. The design of the guest rooms and suites highlights Fairmont's commitment to making guests feel at home and includes spacious living and work areas, comfortable furniture and color palettes inspired by the city's colorful bridges to give them a residential feel. Room amenities include an LCD HDTV, iPod docking station and a four-fixture bathroom. Guest rooms will be some of the largest in the city and include a double queen room (466 square-feet) and a king room (424 square-feet). Guests will also enjoy spectacular views of the city landscape and rivers thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows, the only of its kind in Pittsburgh. Deluxe-view rooms are also available for even more spectacular views of Mt. Washington, the North Shore and the rivers.

“It was important to us that guest rooms not only feature contemporary elegance and luxurious hotel amenities, but that they reflect the unique culture, history and art scene that makes Pittsburgh such a great city to live in, work or visit,” said Czarnecki.

Dining options at Fairmont Pittsburgh include “Andys” bar - whose name celebrates two of Pittsburgh's most famous Andrews: Carnegie and Warhol - and Habitat restaurant, which will feature world-inspired cuisine utilizing locally-sourced ingredients. Both venues are located within the unique double-height lobby of Fairmont Pittsburgh, allowing easy access from Market Street. Andys and Habitat will serve the classic cocktails expertly crafted by Fairmont's talented mixologists.

Fairmont Pittsburgh food and beverage offerings will be under the direction of Executive Chef Andrew Morrison. A native of Cheshire, England, Morrison takes his culinary inspiration from his European training and his adopted city of Pittsburgh, focusing on internationally-inspired cuisine and a commitment to locally-sourced ingredients. Morrison joins Fairmont Pittsburgh from the Four Seasons Atlanta where he served as Executive Sous Chef of Georgia's only Five Star, Five Diamond hotel.

In addition, Fairmont Pittsburgh will feature significant conference and event space for social and business functions. The main ballroom features 6,000 square feet of open space for weddings and other social gatherings. Three private meeting rooms, a boardroom and full banquet and catering facilities are also available. Fairmont Pittsburgh will also offer a 6,000 square-foot health club, which will feature top-of-the-line cardio and strength training equipment, a fitness studio and spa treatments and lounge areas where guests can enjoy manicures, pedicures and massages. Spacious day-use and membership locker rooms with saunas, steam rooms and private showers will also be available. The health club features floor-to-ceiling windows allowing for natural light and great views of the downtown business district. For more information, please visit www.fairmont.com/pittsburgh.
