Fairmont Opens North California Resort

. October 14, 2008

MONTEREY, CA, August 17, 2006. Fairmont is opening a new luxury mixed-use development in Seaside on the Monterey Bay in Northern California.

Fairmont will manage the resort, which is scheduled for completion during 2009, building upon the company's strong presence in the West, particularly the California and Canadian marketplace.

The hotel will feature 330 rooms and suites, of which 160 will be situated in bungalows secluded amongst the trees, 24,000 square feet of meeting space, a 14,000 square-foot Willow Stream spa, dining outlets, an outdoor pool and the existing 36-hole championship Bayonet and Black Horse golf course facility that Fairmont will manage.

In addition, a residential component is planned with 170 condominiums and 125 single-family lots.

The resort is a possible site for Fairmont Heritage Place and Fairmont Residences, the company's branded residential offerings. The resort and golf courses are situated on a 440-acre site, formerly part of Fort Ord prior to its transfer to Seaside under the Base Closure Act.

Stated Mayor Ralph Rubio, speaking upon behalf of the Seaside City Council which was instrumental in establishing this new development, "This project is a clear example of how we can transform land once utilized by the government into a privately financed, mixed-use development that will generate revenue, promote job creation and further the revitalization of our vibrant community."

William R. Fatt, Fairmont's Chief Executive Officer, said, "The Seaside project is an exciting addition to our portfolio, given its premium coastal resort location. We are delighted to partner with SRD, an experienced developer, and look forward to building upon the brand's longstanding presence in California, the home of our flagship hotel The Fairmont San Francisco, which celebrates a century of hospitality next year."

The developers at the helm of SRD, Donald R. Diamond and Donald Pitt, have been working to create a luxury resort complex on the land since the City and SRD entered into an agreement last August.

Donald Pitt commented, "Richard Fitzgerald, Donald Diamond and I believe that without the strong leadership of Mayor Rubio and an enlightened city council this project would not have come to fruition. We are excited to realize our vision in Seaside of developing a world-class resort and residential community.

The destination will be an ideal place to vacation or own a home. We welcome the opportunity to combine this exceptional site with Fairmont's luxury brand and solid management and our commitment to create a resort community parallel to the finest in the Monterey Bay Peninsula."

Fairmont has also been nominated this year for a World Travel Award as North America's Leading Hotel Brand.
