Developer Building a Microtel in Orange, TX

. October 14, 2008

ATLANTA, GA, November 9, 2006. Junius Johnson, a national real estate developer and native of Orange, Texas, will break ground on a Microtel Inn & Suites hotel at the intersection of I-10 and North Simmons Drive in Orange early next month. Johnson will also develop a Quisznos restaurant and space for retail shops next to the hotel. The project, just two miles west of the Texas-Louisiana border, is scheduled to open next summer.

Orange, located in southeastern Texas and the last stop for entertainment before motorists enter the State of Louisiana, is nearby to numerous casinos and Delta Downs racing. There are currently 20 Microtel Inn & Suites hotels open in the State of Texas and several more in development.

Johnson has 36 years of real estate development experience and is a member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). He focuses on locales in need of redevelopment and has successfully revitalized neighborhoods across the country in such cities as Scottsdale, AZ, Las Vegas, NV, and Lufkin and Mansfield, TX.

"I left my beloved town of Orange when I was a child to move to California with my mother, and always knew that I would return to help redevelop the city," said Johnson. "Being a redeveloper is one of the best ways to give back, and I look forward to helping to revitalize Orange with a quality project that includes an economy hotel with top-notch amenities, Quisznos restaurant and retail shops.

"I chose to build a Microtel because it is a leading hotel brand with excellent rates, free telephone and high speed internet services, and suite accommodations," he added. Johnson plans to build additional Microtel hotels in Corpus Christi and Taylor, Texas.

Commented Jeff Binford, Microtel's regional director, franchise sales and development, "We are excited to work with Junius and his team to bring a Microtel to Orange. With his wealth of redevelopment experience, he has not only kept the project on track, but has successfully accumulated adjacent parcels of land on which to build a retail center."

The four-story, 75-room Microtel Inn & Suites hotel in Orange will offer single, double and suite accommodations. Amenities will include free local and free long distance phone calls anywhere within the continental U.S. and free high speed wireless Internet access in all guestrooms, expanded cable television with CNN, HBO and ESPN, a meeting room, shopping, and complimentary continental daily breakfast.

Microtel Inns & Suites are all newly constructed, interior corridor, budget-economy hotels and one of the fastest growing hotel brands in the U.S. Guests can enjoy membership in the MicroPass(tm) frequent guest program and earn a free night's stay after just nine night stays at any Microtel hotel location. For an unprecedented fifth consecutive year, the chain has been ranked highest in guest satisfaction among economy/budget chains in J.D. Power and Associates' North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Study.

There are currently 293 Microtel hotels open or under construction. All Microtel hotels are independently owned and operated.
